Yves Saint Laurent began his fashion career in Paris as an assistant to Christian Dior. After Dior's sudden death, 21-year-old Yves became head designer. Already in 1962 he founded his own fashion house and created true icons of fashion design: safari jackets, skin-tight trousers, thigh-high boots and the famous tuxedo for women. As early as 1966, YSL produced a “ready-to-wear” collection and revolutionized the fashion industry. In 1978, YSL introduced broad padded shoulders, influencing the look of the 80s. Since the 70s there have been spectacular YSL costume jewelry collections that were way ahead of their time.
