Les Bernard - 1963 to 1996
"The Art of Costume Jewelry."
Herold Shapiro sold his shares in the costume jewelry company "Vogue" in 1962. Herold's son Bernard used the proceeds to establish a new brand: "Les Bernard" in 1963. The brand's quality standards were very high, and many new innovations were developed by Les Bernard that are still being copied today. The company gained much attention with the jewelry featured in the television series: "Dynasty" or "Denver-Clan," as the series was called in Germany. The series was known for its luxurious and dramatic style, and Les Bernard supplied many of the striking pieces of jewelry worn by the lead actresses Joan Collins and Linda Evans. The designs by Les Bernard for "Dynasty" were often opulent, large, and glamorous. The jewelry perfectly matched the extravagant look of the series and shaped the trend for large statement jewelry pieces in the 1980s.
