MEXICO since 1930

"Sterling silver combined with amethysts or turquoises."

During World War II, hard metals were needed for the war efforts. Costume jewelry manufacturers turned to alternative metals and found silver in Mexico. Not only did Mexico have high silver deposits, but it also had thousands of small silver manufacturing shops run by talented artisans. Many designers had their jewelry produced in Mexico in the 1940s. Silver jewelry from Mexico, often and gladly adorned with amethysts, turquoises, or abalone inlays, continues to be successfully sold around the world to this day.
